What should brands check when reviewing a custom hoodie sample?

Update Time:2026/9/23

Compare the physical hoodie sample with the confirmed product requirements.

Brands should review a custom hoodie sample against the approved design direction, tech pack, measurement chart, artwork files, and agreed fabric and trim references. The review should determine whether the fit, construction, materials, workmanship, functionality, and branding meet the requirements—not only whether the sample looks generally correct.

The first sample is an evaluation reference and should not be treated as automatically approved. Any required changes should be recorded clearly before the project moves forward.

Key areas to check

Silhouette, fit, and measurements

Check the overall proportions and intended regular, relaxed, oversized, or cropped fit. Compare chest, body length, shoulder, sleeve, cuff, hem, hood, pocket, and other specified measurements with the measurement chart and agreed tolerances.

Comfort and movement

Review how the hoodie sits and moves, including the neckline, shoulder, arm movement, hood shape, body ease, sleeve proportion, and rib tension. Fit comments should identify the exact area and required adjustment.

Fabric and garment behavior

Compare fabric weight, hand feel, drape, stretch, recovery, surface finish, and color with the agreed reference. Confirm that the material supports the intended silhouette, construction, decoration, and wearing experience.

Construction and workmanship

Review hood depth and construction, neckline finish, seams, panels, pockets, rib cuffs and hem, drawcords, eyelets, zippers, stitch quality, seam alignment, symmetry, puckering, loose threads, and other visible workmanship details.

Functionality

Check zipper operation, pocket usability, rib stretch and recovery, drawcord function, closures, and other functional components. A detail may look correct but still require adjustment if it does not work as intended.

Decoration and branding

Review printing, embroidery, patches, labels, and brand marks for artwork size, color, placement, finish, attachment, and alignment. Also check whether the decoration causes distortion, puckering, stiffness, or another unintended effect on the fabric.

How to provide actionable sample feedback

1

Compare with confirmed references

Use the latest tech pack, measurement chart, artwork, color standard, fabric or trim reference, and previous approved comments rather than relying on memory.

2

Consolidate the comments

Combine feedback into one clear review document where possible. Include annotated photographs, measured values, revised specifications, and precise instructions showing what should remain unchanged and what needs adjustment.

3

Confirm the next approval step

MinCharm reviews the requested changes for technical feasibility and any possible effect on materials, price, or lead time. Material changes may require a revised sample or another agreed approval reference.

Approval should be based on more than the sample alone

Bulk production should begin only after the final sample, written specifications, artwork, and applicable fabric and trim references have been approved. Any accepted differences or revisions should be reflected in the final written requirements.

The approved sample and confirmed specifications then become the main references for bulk manufacturing and quality control.
