The top and bottom should be reviewed both as separate garments and as one complete set.
The planning method depends on whether the design uses an all-over repeat, an engineered placement print, or artwork that requires matching at selected garment components.
How the print type changes the planning
All-over or repeat print
Confirm the repeat size, motif direction, artwork scale, usable fabric width, and how the print may fall after individual garment panels are cut.
Engineered or placement print
Define the artwork size and position from agreed garment reference points, then review how the placement should work across the required size range.
Priority pattern matching
Identify where stripes, checks, borders, or motifs should align, such as pockets, plackets, collars, major seams, or the visual relationship between the top and bottom.

Exact matching at every seam is not automatic
The achievable result can be affected by garment construction, artwork repeat, fabric movement, shrinkage, cutting tolerances, printing method, and production cost. Brands should identify the matching points that are commercially and visually important instead of assuming that every seam and component will align exactly.
The selected fabric, colors, artwork scale, placement, and matching expectations should be reviewed through an applicable print strike-off, fabric sample, or garment sample. Bulk production should follow the approved artwork, approved sample, and confirmed written specifications, including any agreed tolerance or acceptable variation.
